(Duluth, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team entered tonight’s game with the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) looking for the season sweep of the Bulldogs. A slow first half put UMC behind the eight-ball early and they couldn’t recover, falling by a score of 79-59.
 
Minnesota, Crookston made only eight shots in the first half and UMD took advantage making 17 shots and shooting 45.9% from the field to take a 48-26 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles won the second half by a score of 33-31 but turnovers and points given up on turnovers held a UMC comeback at bay.
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, SO, Northfield, Minn.) led all scorers with 18 points in the contest. She was 4-7 from the field, 2-2 from long range and 8-9 from the free-throw line. Zabel also led the Golden Eagles with seven rebounds. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) trailed Zabel with 17 points in 27 minutes of play.
 
Jherri Booker and Kelsey Hewitt led the Bulldog’s with double-doubles. Booker scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Hewitt scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and led all players with three blocked shots. Jordanne Even closed out the top UMD scorers with 16 points.
 
The University of Minnesota, Crookston moves to 9-14 overall and 5-11 in the NSIC. The Bulldogs improve to 13-10 overall and 10-6 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles travel to Bemidji, Minn. tomorrow to take on the Beavers of Bemidji State. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
