U of M, Crookston Gets Back Into Win Column With 4-1 Victory

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team scored four goals in a row after Northland College opened a 1-0 lead and captured a 4-1 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHA)victory over the Lumberjacks Friday night in Ashland, Wis.
After a scoreless first period, Northland College got on the board at 12:22 of the second period when Shaun Newman scored a power play goal off assists from Chad Moore and Matt Tanneberg. However, that would prove to be the only highlight for the Lumberjacks as the Golden Eagles seized and kept the momentum. At 12:58 of the second period, Nigel Smith (Fr, Fwd, White Rock, B.C.) tied the game with an unassisted, even-strength goal. Brent Swanson (Jr, Fwd, Mason City, Iowa) put U of M, Crookston up 2-1 at 19:03 of the second period with a short-handed goal off assists from Ben Sullivan (So, Def, Crookston, Minn.) and Justin Wolden (Fr, Fwd, Wadena, Minn.).
Swanson got back into the act at 3:57 of the third period with an unassisted, short-handed goal to put the Golden Eagles up 3-1. Fred Kooser (Jr, Fwd, Omaha, Neb.) made the final score 4-1 at 7:15 of the third period with a power play goal off an assist from Sullivan.
Bryan Dalbec (Fr, G, Superior, Wis.) had a solid night between the pipes stopping 17 Northland College shots.
Northland College falls to 1-22-1 overall and 1-17-1 in the MCHA. The Golden Eagles improve to 4-20-0 and 4-15-0 in the MCHA. Both teams close out the regular season on today with the final game of the series. The puck drops at 2 p.m.
