Beavers Sneak Past Golden Eagles 78-76

(Bemidji, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team traveled to Bemidji, Minn. to take on the Beavers of Bemidji State University (BSU). Bemidji State, looking for the teams first NSIC victory of the season held off a late UMC charge and took the 78-76 victory.
Bemidji State led by as many as 12 points in the second half but UMC went on a 13-1 run in just under four and a half minutes to tie the game at 54 with 11:45 remaining in the game. The Beavers would go up by seven three times before UMC went on a 9-4 run with 2:07 remaining but the comeback fell short when time expired after a Megan Eul (F, 5-11, FR, Rosemount, Minn.) layup.
Eul played an outstanding 35 minutes finishing with 25 points and 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her career. She was 8-10 from the field and 9-11 from the free-throw line. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She was followed by Ana Garcia (G, 5-7, SO, Minnetonka, Minn.) who scored 13 points and Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, SO, Northfield, Minn.) who scored 12 points and dished a game-high seven assists.
Bemidji State was led by Heidi Matzke who scored 25 points on 9-17 shooting. She was followed by Samantha Baldwin who scored 14 points and Taylor Davis who scored 10 points. Matzke and Baldwin tied for a team high with four assists each.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston moves to 9-15 overall and 5-12 in the NSIC. The Beavers move to 3-21 overall and 1-16 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return home on Saturday, February 21 to host St. Cloud State on Senior Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
