(Crookston, Minn.) – The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) need to win twice in order to stay alive in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) Playoffs. The Raiders got what they needed defeating the University of Minnesota, Crookston 2-1 in game two and taking the mini-game 2-1 in overtime to advance in the MCHA Playoffs.

MSOE dominated game one despite the close score outshooting the Golden Eagles by a 47-10 margin on their way to a 2-1 victory. The Raiders opened the scoring at 7:22 of the first period when Thomas Keegan scored an even-strength goal off assists from Aaron Humphries and Kyle Smith. The Raiders made the score 2-0 when Michael Soik scored an even-strength, unassisted goal at 14:20 of the third period. U of M, Crookston cut the deficit to one goal at 19:29 of the third period when Brett Saari (Sr, Fwd, Green Bay, Wis.) scored a goal with an extra attacker off an assist from John Lombardi (Jr, Fwd, Burnsville, Minn.). However, MSOE managed to hold on for the 2-1 victory forcing the mini-game. Bryan Dalbec (Fr, G, Superior, Wis.) was stellar in net again recording 45 saves.

The mini-game provided more excitement as the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead at 13:51 when Kirk Graham (Sr, Def, Brandon, Manitoba) scored an even-strength goal off an assist from Ben Sullivan (So, Def, Crookston, Minn.). The series appeared to be heading the way of U of M, Crookston until 19:47 when Jason Woll of MSOE took advantage of an extra attacker and scored off assists from Michael Johnson and Steven Smiddy to tie the game at 1-1 and send it to overtime. The Raiders would close things out at 9:40 when Brock King scored an even-strength goal off assists from Soik and Smiddy to secure the 2-1 victory.

MSOE improves to 14-11-2. U of M, Crookston closes out the 2008-2009 season with an overall record of 6-21-0. The Raiders will advance to face Marian University next weekend at Adrian College in Adrian, Mich.
