Golden Eagles Dominate Offensive Boards in 75-70 Loss to Mary

(Bismarck, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team went for the season sweep against the University of Mary tonight in Bismarck, N.D. The Golden Eagles defeated the Marauders 64-59 in overtime on January 30 in Lysaker Gymnasium. UMC dominated the glass, outrebounding Mary 38-21 including a season high 20 offensive rebounds but the Marauders shot 54% from the field in the game to steal the 75-70 victory. Delano Robinson (G, 6-2, 190, JR, Bloomington, Ill.) led the Golden Eagles and all players with a career high 26 points. He shot 8-17 from the field and 8-9 from the free-throw line. Robinson led UMC in assists with three and steals with two in 33 minutes of play. Akeem Cubie (G, 6-5, 180, SO, Minneapolis, Minn.) recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds for the only double-double of the night and the second of his career. UMC shot 43% from the field in the game and took advantage of the season high 20 offensive rebounds to score 24 second chance points to Mary’s four. Mary was led by Jordan Wilhelm who scored 17 points. He was 4-8 from the field and 8-8 from the free-throw line. Geoff West finished with 13 points and was followed by Zach Dosch and Danny Sandvig who scored 10 points each. Dosch led all players with two blocked shots while sandvig led the Marauders with two steals. The University of Minnesota, Crookston is 4-22 overall and 2-17 in NSIC play. Mary advances to 7-19 overall and 5-14 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles close out the 2008-09 season on Saturday, February 28 when the team travels to MSU Moorhead to take on the Dragons.
