(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team saw seven of its players take home Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) All-Academic honors as the league announced its awards recipients at the MCHA Final Four Banquet on Friday night. In order to qualify, a student-athlete must be at least of sophomore standing and have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average.
Martin Husicka 5-9 182 SO F Vsetin, Czech Republic (Billings Bulls)
Husicka played in 18 games scoring one goal and adding six assists for seven points. He is a business management major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Husicka is the son of Petr and Milana Husicka of Vsetin, Czech Republic.
Fred Kooser (C)* 5-8 170 JR F Omaha, NE (Quad City Express)
Kooser played in 19 games scoring seven goals and adding seven assists for 14 points. He is a sport and recreation management major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Kooser is the son of Fred Sr. and Gina Kooser of Omaha, Neb.
Matt Marchel* 6-1 180 JR D Grand Forks, ND (Red River H.S.)
Marchel played in 25 games scoring seven goals and adding nine assists for 16 points. He led the team in points. Marchel is a business management major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. He is the son of Leo and Carmen Marchel of Grand Forks, N.D.
Jacob Osland* 6-2 210 SR D Mayville, ND (Mayville-Portland Jr. Gold)
Osland played in 18 games to close out his career with the Golden Eagles. He is an agronomy major. Osland is the son of Mark and Jody Osland of Mayville, N.D.
Ben Sullivan 5-11 185 SO D Crookston, MN (Wisconsin Mustangs)
Sullivan played in 20 games added three assists for three points this season. His major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston is undeclared. He is the son of Bill Sullivan of Crookston, Minn. and Kay Zidon of Bismarck, N.D.
Brent Swanson* 5-9 190 JR F Mason City, IA (Castleton State University)
Swanson played in 23 games scoring six goals and adding eight assists for 14 points. He is a communication major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Swanson is the son of Steve and Becky Swanson of Mason City, Iowa.
Nick Sylvester 5-9 160 SO D Crookston, MN (Crookston H.S.)
Sylvester played in played in 17 games adding two assists for two points. He is an agronomy major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Sylvester is the son of David and Deb Sylvester of Crookston, Minn.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston finished the 2008-2009 season with an overall record of 6-21-0 and MCHA record 5-15-0.
