Golden Eagles Downed by Dragons 83-69 to Close out Season

(Moorhead, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) Women’s Basketball team traveled to MSU Moorhead on Saturday, February 28 to take on the Dragon’s in the final regular season game of the 2008-09 season. The Dragons shot 45% from long range and hit 10 three-pointers in the game to help them to the 83-69 NSIC victory.
Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led all players with a season-high 25 points. She was 10-16 from the field, 2-4 from beyond the arc and 3-4 from the free-throw line. Zelinsky closed out the season leading the Golden Eagles with a 16 points/game average. Megan Eul (F, 5-11, FR, Rosemount, Minn.) scored 18 points. She was 5-6 from the field, 2-2 from long range, 6-10 from the line and tied a season-high with three assists in 33 minutes. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, FR, Northfield, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles defensively with nine rebounds while adding eight points. The Golden Eagles forced the Dragons into 19 turnovers and turned them into 26 points and held MSUM to nine points off of turnovers.
MSU Moorhead was led by Meghan Rettke who scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. She was 7-13 fomr the field and a perfect 7-7 from the line. Alison Nash-Gerlach scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the team’s second double-double of the game. Krista Opheim added 14 points and dished a game-high seven assists. Betsy Dickson scored 10 points and led all players with three steals.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston moves to 9-18 overall and 5-15 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead advances to 21-6 overall and 14-6 in the NSIC.
