Winona State University Sweeps Golden Eagles 8-2 & 11-2

(Crookston, Minn.) – Winona State University broke open a close game with six runs in the seventh inning to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston 8-2 today in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action in Winona, Minn. The Warriors took the nightcap by an 11-2 margin.
Game One Recap
The Warriors scored six runs in the top half of the seventh inning to break open a 2-1 game and take home an 8-2 victory. Steve Schroer (Fr, RHP, Coon Rapids, Minn.) was stellar on the hill until taking a line drive to the side of the head in the top of the fifth inning. He allowed one earned run on five hits. He struck out two. He returned to the dugout later and will be fine. Devin Croal (Fr, 2B, Coon Rapids, Minn.) had two hits for the Golden Eagles. John Magee, Ronnie Olson and Ben Smothers each had two hits for Winona State University.
Game Two Recap
The Warriors opened a 6-2 lead after three innings and never looked back on their way to an 11-2 victory. Croal had two hits for U of M, Crookston while Casey Woodside (Fr, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) added two hits and two RBI. Andrew Kes had a three run homer and four RBI for Winona State University. Smothers added two hits.
The Golden Eagles fall to 3-17 overall and 1-5 in the NSIC. The Warriors improve to 8-7 and 2-0 in the NSIC. The two teams return to action tomorrow. First pitch of the NSIC doubleheader is scheduled for 12 pm.
