Winona State University Sweeps Golden Eagles 12-6 & 9-2

(Crookston, Minn.) – Winona State University broke open two close games with late rallies and swept the University of Minnesota, Crookston in an Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader today in Winona, Minn. The Warriors took game one 12-6 and won the nightcap 9-2.
Game One Recap
Winona State University broke open a one run game with five runs in the top half of the seventh inning to win 12-6. Teddy Gutman (Jr, IF, Burlington, Iowa) was two for four with two RBI for the Golden Eagles. He also hit a solo homerun. Jordan Triestram (Jr, IF/RHP, Shakopee, Minn.) and Paul Krebs (Sr, OF/RHP, Little Falls, Minn.) also added two hits each. Jared Anderson was three for four for the Warriors.
Game Two Recap
The score was deadlocked at 2-2 in the top half of the sixth inning until the Warriors scored seven straight to win 9-2. Kayle Lewellen (Sr, IF, Forest Lake, Minn.) was three for four with an RBI for U of M, Crookston. Jake Poehler (So, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) added two hits and an RBI. Devin Croal (Fr, IF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) had two hits for the Golden Eagles. Lincoln Messner (Jr, RHP, Winthrop, Minn.) struck out eight for U of M, Crookston. Ross Hellenbrand was three for four with a solo homerun and two RBI for Winona State University.
The Golden Eagles fall to 3-19 overall and 1-7 in the NSIC. The Warriors improve to 10-7 and 4-0 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 1 when they travel to Valley City State University in a single nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
