Golden Eagle Baseball Team Set to Open Home Season

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team has taken on the role of road warriors this season spending their first 32 games away from the confines of the UMC Baseball Field. The Golden Eagles will finally get to open the home portion of their schedule with six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games this week.

U of M, Crookston will play host to the University of Mary on Wednesday, April 15. First pitch of the doubleheader will be thrown at 2 p.m. Concordia University – St. Paul comes to town for a four game set on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. each day.

The Golden Eagles cracked back into the win column on Saturday when they closed out a four game series at Southwest Minnesota State University with a 5-2 victory. The Mustangs took the first three games of the series by scores of 6-3, 10-0 and 3-0. U of M, Crookston holds an overall record of 4-28 and NSIC record of 2-16. Jake Poehler (So, OF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) is hitting .337 (33 for 98) with 12 RBI. Devin Croal (Fr, IF, Coon Rapids, Minn.) is hitting .325 (37 for 114) with 15 RBI. Casey Woodside (Fr, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) is hitting .313 (26 for 83) with 19 RBI. Paul Krebs (Sr, RHP/OF, Little Falls, Minn.) is 2-4 on the mound with a 4.55 ERA and 35 strikeouts.

Golden Eagles vs. University of Mary            Wednesday, April 15            2 p.m.

Coach Brad Walsh and his Marauders come to town for a return engagement of last Tuesday’s doubleheader played in Sidney, Mont. The University of Mary defeated the Golden Eagles by scores of 19-4 and 11-4. The Marauders have an overall record of 5-21 and NSIC record of 2-4 after dropping four games at Minnesota State University, Mankato this past weekend. They are led by Casey Gray who is hitting .333 (27 for 81) with nine RBI. Ben Herauf is hitting .300 (24 for 80) with 12 RBI.

Golden Eagles vs. Concordia University – St. Paul    Saturday/Sunday            12 p.m.

Coach Mark McKenzie and his Golden Bears hold an overall record of 24-11 and NSIC record of 5-8 after splitting a four game series with St. Cloud State University this past weekend. They will travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on Northern State University in an NSIC doubleheader on Wednesday. The Golden Bears are led by Jon Stockton who is hitting .380 (35 for 92) with 16 RBI. Jake Schmidt is hitting .379 (47 for 124) with 28 RBI while Chris Herbert is hitting .368 (42 for 114) with 46 RBI. Brendan Furrow is also hitting .368 (42 for 114) with 30 RBI. Schmidt is also 5-2 on the mound with a 4.19 ERA and 71 strikeouts.
