competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Nationals hosted by Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. on April 23-26. The junior rider finished in tenth place and represented the Golden Eagles extremely well. Peterson qualified for the competition by gaining the most points in the Reining and Open Horsemanship classes throughout the show season. She competed against 22 of the top riders across the country to earn her tenth place finish. Amanda started the IHSA National Competition with a strong rail and pattern portion in the Open Horsemanship and finished eighth there. In the Reining, she finished 13th. This gave her enough points to earn overall tenth place. The American Quarter Horse Association sponsored the class where she received a medal, ribbon, top ten jacket and a bag. “I was thrilled with Amanda’s placing for her first time competing at that level,” says Golden Eagle Western Coach Nicky Overgaard. “Her confidence and poise at the show were remarkable and I am pleased with how her riding has improved throughout the show season and peaked at the right time. I think that tenth overall at a national show demonstrates her talent and horsemanship skills.” The horses at the show are all brought in from around the country and riders are not allowed to ride the horse prior to their class. They draw the horse out of a hat and go in and ride an unfamiliar horse. The Intercollegiate Horse Show Association encompasses the 48 states and parts of Canada and includes 8,000 riders from around the country. The National Horse Show is made up of the top riders from every region and is a showcase of horsemanship skill from the beginner riders to the top riders in the nation.
