Megan Eul

(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) women’s basketball player Megan Eul (Rosemount, Minn.) and football player Cody Brekken (Crookston, Minn.) recently returned from the 2009 NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Eul and Brekken were two of only 233 Division II student-athletes selected to attend the event. There are over 40,600 students-athletes that compete nationally at the NCAA Division II level. The annual NCAA National Student-Athlete Development Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
 
“Attending the NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference was definitely a great experience. It taught me a lot about myself (as a student and an athlete) and about how to adjust to different situations on and off the court,” explains Eul. “I learned different ways to flex to the personalities and behaviors of other teammates and coaches and a lot about a student-athletes well-being. This was a good opportunity to interact with other student-athletes and a chance to come away with different ideas for your campus and SAAC programs.” Eul adds, “This conference really took me outside my comfort zone, but I learned a lot through it all and met a lot of different people. It was a really good experience and hopefully I will be able to take what I learned and apply it to my everyday life.”
 

Cody Brekken

The National Student-Athlete Development Conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities.  The four-day conference consists of daily color team sessions, exercises, speakers and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members to society.  This conference takes place annually in Lake Buena Vista, Florida and is provided at no cost to all NCAA member institution student-athletes.
