Cathy Behr Hired as Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Women's Administrator at UMC

(Crookston, Minn.)- The Golden Eagle Athletic Department announced today that Cathy Behr a native of Willmar, MN has been hired as the new Assistant Athletic Director/Senior Womens Administrator at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. In her new capacity, she will work with marketing/promotions, game management and management of the media relations office. She will also be the SAAC Advisor and monitor gender equity/Title IX issues dealing with athletics.

Prior to her position at UMC, Behr was an intern with the Womens Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in Atlanta, Georgia. While at the WBCA she was involved in media relations and worked with the awards department. Behr worked with many events surrounding the WBCA Convention including the awards luncheon held during the NCAA Division I Final Four, which took place in Boston, MA this year.


"I am very excited to return to my alma mater and be a part of the Crookston community again. I had such a great experience going to school here and I take a lot of pride in UMC. I look forward to starting my career here, says Behr.

Behr graduated from the University of Minnesota, Crookston in 2004 with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport & Recreation Management. She pursued and received her Masters of Education in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in 2005. She has gained valuable experience interning and volunteering with organizations such as the WBCA, University of Minnesota Athletic Communications Department, Minnesota Timberwolves/Lynx, Flip Saunders Basketball Camps and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).


From 2000-2004 Behr was a fixture on the Golden Eagle Womens Basketball team. Following the 2002-2003 regular season she was named to the NSIC All-Conference and All-Tournament teams. In the NSIC Conference Tournament she averaged 17 points/game and was second in tournament scoring with 51 points. Her outstanding play would continue her entire career at UMC as she ranks in the Top 10 in several career statistical categories including steals (2nd), assists (4th), blocks (4th), field goals made (4th), three-pointers made (4th), rebounds (4th), free-throws made (5th) and scoring (5th). Behr was named the UMC Female Athlete of the Year in 2003 and received the Student Achievement Award in 2003 and 2004.


"We are very excited to have Cathy return to UMC and be a part of the Golden Eagle athletic program," says Stephanie Helgeson, Director of Athletics. "She has had some outstanding experiences working in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference office, Gopher's Media Relations Office and most recently she completed an internship with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). She is very enthusiastic, very determined and I think she will do a great job for us," Helgeson adds.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston is a Division II Institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
