UMC Celebrates Homecoming on September 25 -30, 2006, “Rockin’ On and Still Going Strong” is Theme for Homecoming Week

CROOKSTON, MN (September 11, 2006) – “Rockin’ On and Still Going Strong” is the theme for a weeklong homecoming celebration at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). Activities begin on Monday, Sept. 25 and run through Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006.
 
Homecoming week highlights include coronation on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium followed by a dance in Bede Ballroom. The Athletic Hall of Fame and Outstanding Alumni recognition event will take place on Friday, Sept. 29, in Bede Ballroom in the Student Center.
 
The 2006 Outstanding Alumni are Doug Aretz ‘75 and Katherine (Torkelson) Majkrzak ’80. Inductees into the UMC Athletic Hall of Fame are Jeff Malawski, a member of the 1992-‘94 and 1995-’97 hockey teams; Sherry (Staff) Nelson, who played on the women’s basketball team from 1984-’86; Mike Gasper, a member of the 1975-’77 football team; and Bob Johnson, UMC faculty athletic representative from 1970-’97 and rounding out the inductees will be the 1972-‘73 men’s hockey team. The evening’s schedule includes a 6 p.m. social, 6:30 p.m. dinner, and 7 p.m. program. Tickets are $16 per person and can be reserved by contacting the alumni office at 218-281-8439. 
Saturday, Sept. 30, the homecoming parade takes place at 11:30 a.m. around the campus mall followed by the Teambackers tailgate lunch in parking lot E. The UMC Golden Eagle football team will take on the Wayne State College Wildcats at 1 p.m. on Ed Widseth Field. Following the game, there will be a post-game social at Minakwa Golf Club in Crookston.
 
Another highlight of the homecoming week will be Family Weekend for all UMC students and family members. Activities are scheduled for parents and families including a breakfast on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 30, in the Northern Lights Lounge in the Student Center.
