CROOKSTON, MN (December 15, 2006) – Learn more about the details of a comprehensive review of the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) intercollegiate athletic program at a community forum scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, at 5:15 p.m. The open forum will take place in the basement of City Hall, 124 N. Broadway, Crookston, Minn., and is being hosted by the Crookston Area Chamber of Commerce. Community members are encouraged to join in the discussion and learn about UMC’s Athletic Review Committee report that was released in late November after five months of data collection and analysis. The forum will be an opportunity to gather additional input from individuals in the area and throughout the region. Committee chair and area resident Glenn Olsen, Ph.D., will present an overview of the report and answer questions. UMC Chancellor Charles H. Casey and Athletic Director Stephanie Helgeson, who also sat on the committee, will also be on hand to answer questions. The Athletic Review Committee report is the result of the work of an 18-member committee of community and business leaders and University staff, faculty and students. They were charged with reviewing how the intercollegiate athletic program currently supports the University’s mission of education, research and outreach. To review the complete report, visit www.umcrookston.edu/planning/strategic/arcindex.htm. Decisions regarding the future of the Crookston campus intercollegiate athletic program are scheduled to be made in early 2007 by Chancellor Casey. The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) delivers more than 24 different undergraduate degree programs, including online options, in agriculture; arts, humanities and social sciences; business; math, science and technology; and natural resources.
