U of M, Crookston Teambackers Plan Week of Events Culminating in Fun Nite on Friday, April 27, 2007

CROOKSTON, Minn. (April 4, 2007) – Head Football Coach Shannon Stassen will kick off a week of fundraising activities at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) when he spends three days on a lift to raise money for the Herschel Lysaker Endowed Scholarship. Lysaker worked on the campus for 32 years and served as athletic director from 1966-73. The endowment goes to support athletes in all scholarship sports at UMC. The week culminates with Teambacker Fun Nite on Friday, April 27, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Crookston Eagles Club.
Stassen will go up on the lift at noon on Monday, April 23 on the campus. On Tuesday, April 24, the lift will be located in the parking lot on the corner of Main Street and Fletcher. The lift will return to campus on Wednesday, April 25 and Stassen will remain there until dusk.
On Thursday, April 26, the First Annual Bill Tyrrell Walk-a-thon will be held. From 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Bill Tyrrell, director of athletic fundraising, will walk five miles on the track at Ed Widseth Field near the campus with all contributions going to UMC scholarships.
“Athletic scholarships are the focus of this week at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, but we also want to raise the awareness of the campus and community about the importance of supporting all UMC student scholarships” said Corby Kemmer, director of development. “It is exciting to see Coach Stassen and Bill Tyrrell lead this effort because we value our student athletes and what they bring to the campus.”
The highlight of the week will be Teambacker Fun Nite on Friday, April 27, 2007, beginning with the social and followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and games at 7:30 p.m.. Ticket holders are eligible for more than $750 in prizes. Tickets are $40 and available from Teambacker members or by calling Director of Athletic Fundraising Bill Tyrrell at 218-281-8436.
