CROOKSTON, Minn. (April 23, 2007) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) development office is working to raise $50,000 in 50 days in support of Golden Eagle athletics. Giving during the 50-day campaign will have even more impact since matching funds will be available thereby increasing the potential of the campaign.

The effort to raise private funds is an essential component of the campus commitment to NCAA Division II athletic competitive success and supports a decision made earlier this year by UMC Chancellor Charles H. Casey for the Golden Eagles to remain in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Thus far, the campaign’s 30 some donors have helped to raise more than 50% of the $50,000 goal. Along with the campaign, which ends Friday, May 10, 2007, the recent hiring of several coaches indicates campus support for and stronger investment in the athletic program.

“We are excited about this opportunity to support Golden Eagle athletics with a fundraising campaign in support of the decision to stay Division II,” said Director of Development Corby Kemmer. “We appreciate those who have stepped up to the challenge and recognized the value of our athletic programs and how they enhance the UMC campus.”

Bill Tyrrell, director of athletic fundraising, along with Kemmer, is asking for donors to consider a $1,000 contribution to become a partner in the effort. However, donations of any amount will be accepted. The funds raised will be unrestricted, meaning that they can be used to advance Golden Eagle programs, scholarships and operations as needed.

A special donor appreciation event will be scheduled in May to honor those who have given their support to the campaign.
