(Crookston, Minn.)- The UMC Golden Eagles finished out a great 2006-2007 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) year. Both the hunt and western teams did remarkably well this year. The riders travel all around the Midwest competing against riders of their same skill level. This year, shows were held at North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Wisconsin-River Falls, University of Wisconsin-Madison and at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. There are 14 different schools including community and technical colleges to 4 year Universities that compete in the Zone 9, Region 3.
UMC had one hunt rider qualify and compete at regionals this season. Corey Ramsden (Jr., Sisseton, S.D.) went on to ride at the zones competition in Chicago, Ill. The western team had 12 students qualify with seven of those 12 students participating in the regional competition. Danika Kent (So., Lancaster, Minn.) and Lindy Hausauer (Moorhead, Minn.) placed 1st and 2nd respectively which continued their show career and advanced them to the semi-finals held in Pomona, CA. Kent won the individual intermediate horsemanship class at the semi-finals. She went on to compete at nationals held in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Kent ended her year as the 10th best rider in the country.
