Mark Olsonawski Scholarship Golf Tournament a Major Success for Golden Eagle Athletics

Crookston, Minn. (July 2, 2007) - The University of Minnesota, Crookston recently held its annual Mark Olsonawski Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Two Rivers Golf Course in Hallock, Minn. Eighteen teams participated in the 18 hole scramble which raised in excess of $2,000. All proceeds benefit an endowed football scholarship in honor of former standout Golden Eagle football player Mark Olsonawski. Olsonawski was a running back and team captain for the Golden Eagles and is a native of Hallock, Minn.

Following the completion of the tournament, awards were handed out for first, second and third place in each of the two flights. Chancellor Charles H. Casey was also in attendance and addressed the tournament’s participants.

 

The University of Minnesota, Crookston would like to thank tournament sponsors Marshall Bank and American Federal Bank of Hallock, Minn., food sponsors Crop Insurance Associates and Jerry and Carol Olsonawski, additional sponsors Johnson Oil, Kittson Equipment and Noel Electric as well as tournament director Kelly Turgeon and the Two Rivers Golf Course for all of their help and support with the tournament.

Second Place – Scott Pearson, Scott Klein, Bill Moore, Lowell Williams


Tournaments like this one are designed to support efforts to boost scholarship options for student athletes and investments in athletic programs. U of M, Crookston reaffirmed its commitment to competing at the Division II level as a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) earlier this year. Chancellor Casey committed to working with University officials to identify additional resources and outside fundraising opportunities to invest over a 3-year period.
