Golden Eagle Women's Golf Tournament Draws 18 Teams

On Tuesday, August 14, the University of Minnesota, Crookston Athletic Department held its annual Women’s Golf Tournament at the Minakwa Golf Course in Crookston, Minn.

 

The tournament benefits women’s athletic scholarships at the university.

Eighteen teams and a total of 74 participants took part in the nine-hole event which started after remarks from University of Minnesota, Crookston Chancellor Charles H. Casey and Athletic Director Stephanie Helgeson.

 

“We are very happy with the turnout that. We had 18 teams with a couple of additional golfers which made it the largest women’s golf event that we have had in seven years,” says Golden Eagle Athletic Director Stephanie Helgeson. “In addition to the community support, we had seven teams from River View Healthcare, two teams from Fertile and a few alumni back as well. We raised approximately $2,000 for the women’s athletic scholarship fund and certainly appreciate those that played, sponsored a hole or donated prizes for the tournament.”

 

Following the tournament, dinner was provided and a short program took place. Theresa Crance, a senior Golden Eagle Volleyball and Women’s Basketball player from Timberlake, S.D., spoke about the impact that athletics has had on her life and how grateful she is for the opportunities provided to her by the University of Minnesota, Crookston and its supporters .

 

Awards were handed out for the first, second, and third place teams as well as the longest putt, straightest drive, and longest drive.

Third Place – Sue Henderson, Dawn Skjei, Bonnie Sullivan, Carol Royal

Longest Drive – Jodi Petry
