Golden Eagle Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Northern Michigan

(Grand Forks, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston women’s volleyball team closed out the 2007 Fighting Sioux Volleyball Fall Tournament this afternoon against Northern Michigan at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Wildcats defeated UMC 3-0 (22-30, 20-30, 24-30) in the match and went 3-0 in the weekend tournament.

The Golden Eagle attackers were held to nine kills or fewer for the second match in a row. Katie Bonine (Fr., OH, Cottage Grove, Minn.) led UMC with nine kills in the match. Katt Garvick (Northern Michigan) led all attackers with 15 kills. UMC’s Cassie Yates (Jr., S, Buffalo, Minn.) had 23 assists and eight digs. Allison Zajicek (Jr., MH, Beatrice, NE) and Amber Meyer (Fr., MH, Paxton, NE) had four assisted blocks for the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles are now 2-5 on the season and Northern Michigan moves to 3-5. The team travels to Bismarck, N.D. on September 7 to open conference play against the University of Mary. UMC opens its home conference schedule on September 14 when MSU-Moorhead comes to town. A 7:00 p.m. game start is scheduled for both games.
