Marauders Spoil Golden Eagle Volleyball Conference Opener

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) and the University of Mary opened the 2007 NSIC conference volleyball season with one of the best matches of the year in Bismarck, N.D. The match went five games with the teams trading wins until the fifth and final game when the Marauders snuck out a 15-11 game win to take the match.

The Golden Eagle’s Katie Bonine (Fr., OH, Cottage Grove, MN) led all attackers in the match with 16 kills. Mary’s Tatiani Santos finished with 15 kills and a .542 attack percentage. Setter Cassie Yates (Jr., Buffalo, MN) assisted on 45 of UMC’s 54 total kills. Ashley Maas (Mary) had an outstanding night at the service line, finishing with eight service aces in the match. Defensively, the Golden Eagles continue to play tough. The team finished with 20.5 team blocks (8 solo, 25 assisted). Theresa Crance (Sr., MH, Timber Lake, SD), Amber Meyer (Fr., MH, Paxton, NE) and Ashley Allen (So., OH, Buffalo, MN) finished with one solo block and six block assists each.

The Golden Eagles are 2-6 on the season and 0-1 in the NSIC. The Marauders are 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. UMC travels to Northern State University tomorrow afternoon to take on the Wolves in NSIC action. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
