CROOKSTON, Minn. (September 19, 2007) – Alumni and friends are invited to join students, faculty and staff and “Let the Good Times Roll” during homecoming week at the University of Minnesota, Crookston the first week in October. The theme “Let the Good Times Roll,” chosen by the Crookston Student Association, will be carried out throughout homecoming week activities beginning on Monday, October 1, through Saturday, October 6, 2007.

One of the week’s highlights includes the induction of Janice (Gubbels) Millard, ’84, Steele Senske, ex. ’90, and Chancellor Emeritus Donald Sargeant into the Athletic Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony takes place during a banquet that also honors the 2007 Outstanding Alumni, Doug Aretz, ’75, and Richard Magnusson, ’81. The evening begins with a social at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., and a program at 7 p.m. in Bede Ballroom. Reservations are required by October 1; contact the Office of Development & Alumni Relations by calling Rose Ulseth at 218-281-8439 (rulseth@umn.edu) to make a reservation

Another exciting event will take place on Friday evening. The Crookston campus is reviving the traditional homecoming bonfire and pep rally on the grassy area south of the football practice field beginning at 9 p.m. The bonfire and pep rally, a tradition that began when the U of M, Crookston was a residential high school from 1906-68, is being revived as part of a longstanding homecoming custom. It will include introductions of the athletic teams, lighting of the bonfire, music, contests, and of course, a hotdog and marshmallow roast. The event is sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
