Golden Eagles Outlast Warriors, Defeat Winona State 3-2

(Crookston, Minn.)-  The U of M, Crookston Women’s Volleyball team reversed the curse of the five game match this afternoon as the Golden Eagles defeated the Warriors of Winona State 3-2 (23-30, 30-20, 30-25, 28-30, 15-12). UMC has played in four other five game matches this season and have lost all four with no fifth game being decided by more than four points.

 

UMC had five players with double-digits kills. Katie Bonine (Fr., OH, Cottage Grove, Minn.) led all attackers with a career high 24 kills (.333 attack percentage). Heather Foreman (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) and Amber Meyer (Fr., MH, Paxton, Neb.) finished with 13 kills each. Theresa Crance (Sr., MH, Timber Lake, S.D.) and Allison Zajicek (Jr., MH, Beatrice, Neb.) finished with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Zajicek and Meyer also finished with six assisted blocks. Setter Cassie Yates (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) set a career high, assisting on 66 of the team’s 78 total kills. Defensively, Jaclyn Slepicka (So., DS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) led all players with 19 digs. The Golden Eagles finished the match with an outstanding team attack percentage of .320. Kim Nemcek led the Warriors offensively with 18 kills.

 

The Golden Eagles are now 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the NSIC. Winona State drops to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play. UMC returns home on Tuesday, September 25 to host St. Cloud State University at Lysaker Gymnasium. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
