University of Mary Uses Two First Half Goals to Defeat Golden Eagle Women’s Soccer Team 2-0

(Crookston, Minn.) – On a hot and windy day on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Crookston, the University of Mary scored two first half goals and withstood a solid second half effort from the Golden Eagles to win 2-0 in non-conference action today.
The Marauders outshot U of M, Crookston 11-1 in the first half and took a 2-0 lead behind goals from Megan Wilson (Fr., Fwd., Hickory Corners, Mich.) and Danielle Mello (Jr., Fwd., Casper, Wyo.). Joanna Drennen (So., Mid., Burnsville, Minn.) assisted on goal one and Shanda Lester (Sr., Mid., Rapid City, S.D.) assisted on the second goal.
The Golden Eagles played inspired soccer in the second half getting four of their five shots on goal. However, they were unable to score on the University of Mary’s Carly Feiler (So., GK., Pierre, S.D.).
U of M, Crookston’s Athena Mussenden (So., GK., Kenosha, Wis.) entered the game in the second half and kept the Marauders out of the net.
The Golden Eagles drop to 2-8-0 on the season and return to action next Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Southwest Minnesota State University and Wayne State College respectively. Both games start at 1:00 pm. The University of Mary improves their record to 6-3-0 on the season.
