(Wayne, Neb.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston football team traveled to Wayne, Neb. today to take on the Wildcats of Wayne State College. The Golden Eagles opened the game hitting on all cylinders, scoring in just one minute to take a seven point lead. The Wildcats answered in turn, scoring 31 unanswered points to take the 31-7 victory.

The story of the game was WSC’s runningback Travis Rhone who scored three of the Wildcat’s four touchdowns including two in the first quarter. After the first drive, the Golden Eagle offense couldn’t find a rhythm recording 165 total yards to WSC’s 404 total yards of offense. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was David White (Jr., QB, Detroit, Mich.) who scored UMC’s touchdown on a one yard rush to cap a three play, 46 yard drive. Eric John (So., RB, North Miami, FL) rushed 21 time for 77 yards the Golden Eagles. John also caught four passes for 21 yards. The Wayne State College defense held UMC at bay, sacking Golden Eagle quarterbacks five times in the game. Wayne State’s Travis Rhone rushed the ball 18 times for 132 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Tayler Michels (Jr., DB, Pelican Rapids, Minn.) led all defenders with nine tackles (seven solo, two assisted) and an interception. WSC’s Nick Baldetti also had nine tackles. Tyler Krueger kept UMC’s offense at bay tallying two sacks and four tackles in the game.

The Golden Eagles are now 1-3 on the season and 0-3 in the NSIC. Wayne State College moves to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. UMC hosts Upper Iowa University next Saturday, October 6 for homecoming at Ed Widseth Field. Kick off is set for 1:00 p.m.
