(Crookston, Minn.) – On the University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Soccer Parents’ Day, the Golden Eagles gave their mothers and fathers plenty to smile about. Megan Gibeault (Fr., Fwd./Mid., Green Bay Wis.) scored a hat trick as U of M, Crookston defeated the Dragons by a score of 3-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action today. The victory avenged a 2-1 non-conference loss to MSUM back on September 5 and is their second straight NSIC victory.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring at 15:46 of the game when Gibeault scored off an assist from Kelsey Palmer (Fr., Fwd./Mid., Crookston, Minn.). This gave U of M, Crookston a 1-0 halftime lead. At 68:10 of the game, Gibeault added her second goal off a corner kick from Kiely Bladow (Sr., Def./Mid., Monument, Colo.). Gibeault’s third goal at 87:44 put the icing on the cake as she was once again assisted by Bladow. Leyla Castillo (Fr., GK, Miami, Fla.) was stellar in net recording the shut out and her second win of the season. Bladow is the Golden Eagles’ all-time assist leader with 14.
U of M, Crookston improves their record to 4-9-0 on the season and 2-1-0 in the NSIC. The Dragons fall to 6-7-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, October 7 when they host Concordia-St. Paul in another NSIC match. Game time is 1:00 pm.
