University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian Has Solid Weekend at UW-River Falls

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian team opened their season this past weekend at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a solid performance.

 

On Saturday, the Golden Eagles took reserve high point for overall team points, one point out of the High Point award.  Sunday the team was third overall and only two points away from the High Point team.

 

Emilee Clark (Sr., Fort Branch, Ind.) placed second in her Novice Horsemanship Class. Amber Miller (Sr., DePere, Wis.) placed first in her Novice Section on Sunday. Sheena Engelbert (Sr., Bruce Crossing, Mich.) won her class both days in the Novice Horsemanship.

 

U of M, Crookston’s Intermediate II riders rode extremely well this weekend. Kelly Gross (Fr., Hines, MN) placed first in her section on both Saturday and Sunday. Kayla Klein (Fr., Hazen, N.D.) placed first in her section on Sunday and second on Saturday. Becky Rhodus (Fr., Kansas City, Missouri) placed first in her Intermediate II Section on Saturday.

 

In Intermediate I, Elsa Lunden (Fr., Annandale, Minn.) placed second in her section on Saturday. Jess Hanson (Sr., Andover, Minn.) had a great weekend as she placed first in the Beginner Division. She also pointed up to Intermediate I and won her section on Sunday.

 

Also on Sunday, Ashley Copa (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) placed third in her Open Horsemanship Class and Jackie Ezell (So., Carlton, Minn.) placed second in her Advanced Horsemanship Class.

 

“Our team work was phenomenal this weekend,” says Golden Eagle Western Coach Nicky Overgaard. “On Saturday, we had 20 out of 25 riders in the ribbons and every rider was in the ribbons on Sunday.  We are definitely in the run for High Point team this year.” 

 

U of M, Crookston’s Western team is off until Saturday, November 3 when they travel to Lincoln, Neb. for a show at the University of Nebraska. The Golden Eagle Hunt team will return to action on October 27-28 when they host a show at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) on the U of M, Crookston campus.
