(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Soccer team shut out Providence College of Otterburne, Manitoba, Canada today by a final score of 5-0.
The Golden Eagles wasted little time getting on the board as Megan Gibeault (Fr., Fwd./Mid., Green Bay, Wis.) scored at 4:22 into the game off an assist from Vanessa Copiak (Jr., Fwd., Calgary, Alberta, Canada). The scoring continued just over three minutes later as Amber Erdmann (Jr., Mid./Fwd., Crookston, Minn.) scored off an assist from Kelsey Palmer (Fr., Fwd./Mid., Crookston, Minn.). Melanie Kuntz (Fr., Fwd., Bismarck, N.D.) then scored her first goal of the season as Erdmann assisted at 26:55. Jacky Creelman (So., Mid., Rogers, Minn.) continued the onslaught at 36:25 off another assist from Copiak. U of M, Crookston took a 4-0 lead into the intermission. Copiak closed out the scoring at 49:51 of the game off assists from Kiely Bladow (Sr., Def./Mid., Monument, Colo.) and Becky Thorbjornsen (Jr., Mid., Rapid City, S.D.) It was Bladow’s 11th assist of the season and 15th of her career which is an all-time Golden Eagle record.
Three Golden Eagle goalkeepers shared the shutout. They were Athena Mussenden (So., GK, Kenosha, Wis.), Anna Ogaard (Fr., GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) and Leyla Castillo (Fr., GK, Miami, Fla.). U of M, Crookston’s defense held Providence College to one shot on goal. The Golden Eagles had 24.
U of M, Crookston is 5-11-0 on the season and 2-3-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). They return to action this weekend when they travel to Northern State University and the University of Mary for NSIC action. Both games are 1:00 pm starts. Providence College falls to 9-6-0 on the year.
