Dragons Offense Downs Golden Eagles in Three

(Moorhead, Minn.)- The Golden Eagle Women’s Volleyball team traveled to Moorhead, Minnesota this evening to do battle with the Dragons in NSIC play. The reception for UMC was swift and harsh as MSU Moorhead defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0 (16-30, 17-30, 11-30).

Offensively, the Golden Eagles didn’t have a player with double-digit kills, while MSU Moorhead had three. Attack efficiency was the deciding factor in the match as UMC out-attacked the Dragons but finished with a .022 attack percentage to the Dragon’s .328 attack percentage. Theresa Crance (Sr., MH, Timber Lake, S.D.) led UMC offensively with seven kills and a .500 attack percentage. Setter Cassie Yates (Jr., Buffalo, Minn.) assisted on 21 of the Golden Eagles 27 kills and Jaclyn Slepicka (So., Lib., Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the team with 13 digs on the night.

The Dragons had 21 more kills than the Golden Eagles and had three players with double-digit kills. Megan Norling finished the match with 11 kills to lead all attackers. Ashley Pyfferoen and Laura Tvrdik finished with 10 kills a piece. Pyfferoen had an attack percentage of .529 while Kelci Guenther finished with a .600 attack percentage (9K-0E-15TA). Setter Julie Vancura had 34 assists to lead all players and Calla Oftedahl had a game high 16 digs.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston now has an overall record of 4-19 and is 2-11 in the NSIC. MSU Moorhead improves their record to 14-6 overall and 9-4 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court this Friday and Saturday. The team hosts Winona State University on October 19 at 7:00 p.m. and Upper Iowa University on October 20 at 5:00 p.m. Both games are at Lysaker Gymnasium.
