(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of South Dakota, ranked fifth in the region, traveled to the University of Minnesota, Crookston tonight for the closing weekend of the 2007 Golden Eagle Volleyball season.  The Coyotes won in three games; however the Golden Eagles played close with USD flirting with wins in the first two games losing 27-30 and 28-30.  Both team’s battled and tied the score 22 times. The team’s also traded nine lead changes before intermission. In the match, the score was tied a total of 30 times and there were 13 lead changes.

Heather Foreman (Jr., OH, Brandon, Manitoba) showcased her talent on parent’s night with 14 kills (.351 attack percentage), 10 digs and one assisted block.  Jaclyn Slepicka (So., Lib, Crystal Lake, Ill.) had a strong defensive effort with 24 digs for the Golden Eagles. She also contributed offensively with a service ace.  Cassie Yates (Jr., S, Buffalo, Minn.) had a well rounded night with two kills, 40 assists, two aces, seven digs and an assisted block.  The future looked bright tonight as well as Katie Bonine (Fr., OH, Cottage Grove, Minn.) had 10 kills, three digs and an assisted block for UMC.

The Coyote’s were led offensively by Ashley Gross’13 kills. She added a dig and two assisted blocks. Kathleen Hruska had 11 kills and finished the match with an impressive .435 attack percentage, two service aces, four digs and three blocks on the night. 

Tonight’s loss brings the Golden Eagles to 6-23 on the year, while the Coyotes improve to 21-7 overall.  The Golden Eagles close out their season tomorrow afternoon against NSIC rival Bemidji State.  The game is set to start at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the game, Golden Eagle seniors Lisa Steinbrecher (Seward, Alaska), Megan Derouard (Kenora, Ontario) and Theresa Crance (Timber Lake, S.D.) will be recognized for their achievements both on and off the court at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
