Golden Eagle Volleyball Team Drops Season Finale to Bemidji State University

(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team had hoped to close out the 2007 season on a winning note. Unfortunately, it was not to be as Bemidji State University defeated the Golden Eagles in three straight games by scores of 30-26, 30-17 and 30-28 today in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action.
U of M, Crookston was led by Theresa Crance (Sr., MH, Timberlake, S.D.) and her 12 kills as well as Katie Bonine (Fr., OH, Cottage Grove, Minn.) who also had 12 kills. Allison Zajicek (Jr., MH, Beatrice, Neb.) and Heather Foreman (Jr. OH, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada) each added eight kills. Cassie Yates (Jr., S, Buffalo, Minn.) had 44 set assists. Jaclyn Slepicka (So., Libero, Crystal lake, Ill.) had 10 digs while Foreman contributed nine. Bonine and Megan Derouard (Sr., S/DS, Kenora, Ontario, Canada) each had eight.
The Beavers were led by Brie Groskreutz and her 15 kills. Nicole Olson and Brittney Burns added 14 and 12 respectively. Alicia Beaman had 33 set assists while Laura Vonasek had 16 digs.
Bemidji State University improves to 10-16 overall and 6-12 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles close out the season with a record of 6-24 and 3-15 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston also bids a sad farewell to three seniors in Crance, Derouard and Lisa Steinbrecher (Sr., DS, Seward, Alaska).
