(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian team overcame a shaky start in the first show at the University of Nebraska and went on to a successful second show on Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.

Jackie Ezell (So., Carlton, Minn) pointed out of the Advanced Division and moved into the Open Division with a third place ribbon. Kathy Ternes (Jr., Felton, Minn.) had a solid performance that earned her second place and pointed her into the Novice Division. Both riders are now eligible for the Regional Show which will be held this coming March.

In the Advanced Division, Amanda Peterson (So., Rochester, Minn.) took third place in a tough morning show while Rachel Muise (Sr., Ojai, Cal.) took second place.

In the Novice Division, Sarah Nowacki (Sr., Argyle, Minn.) and Lindy Hausauer (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) placed second in their sections.

In the Intermediate Class, Elsa Lunden (Fr., Annandale, Minn.) took first place in the morning with a solid ride. Jess Hanson (Sr., Andover, Minn.) took second place in the morning and first in the afternoon. Shannon Schoenberger (Jr., Perham, Minn.) placed second in the second show as well.

The Golden Eagle Walk/Trot Riders did a phenomenal job on Saturday. Melissa Stephens (So., Chaska, Minn.) took first and second and Melanie Regan (Sr., Anchorage, Alaska) took first in her section. Gretchen Lucken (Fr., Greenwald, Minn.) placed second and third.

The U of M, Crookston Western Equestrian team ended up sixth in the morning show and third in the afternoon show.

Coach Nicky Overgaard is excited to see how the rest of the season will unfold. “Total team points are all very close,” says Coach Overgaard. “We will see a neck and neck race for the Regional Championship right until the very last show.”

The Golden Eagles Western Equestrian team will return to action on November 17-18 when they travel to Fargo, N.D. for a competition at North Dakota State University.
