(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Football team had hoped to carry over the magic from last Saturday’s victory over MSU Moorhead into their season finale. However, it was not to be as Concordia-St. Paul shut out the Golden Eagles today by a score of 48-0 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn.
U of Crookston appeared headed in a positive direction forcing the Golden Bears to punt on its first two possessions. However, Concordia-St. Paul found its offense from there scoring on three touchdown passes from quarterback Kole Goodchild. The first was a 46 yard pass to Calvin Simon at 2:58 of the first quarter. He followed this up with six and 20 yard passes to Eric Tonkin at 11:05 and 4:58 of the second quarter respectively to put the Golden Bears up 20-0 at the half.
The second half featured more offensive fireworks from Concordia-St. Paul as Kama Johnson scored on an 11 yard run at 11:10 of the third quarter. Tyrone Ruffin continued the scoring on a 36 yard pass from Goodchild at 6:22 of the third to make the score 34-0.
Antwon Williams got the Golden Bears back on the board at 10:58 of the fourth quarter with a 23 yard run. Concordia-St. Paul closed out the game’s scoring with 17 seconds left when linebacker Jordan Frain recovered a Golden Eagle fumble in the end zone.
Two bright spots for the Golden Eagles were David White (Jr., QB, Detroit, Mich.) who was 10 for 24 for 145 yards passing and Aaron Wall (So., WR, New Orleans, Louisiana) who caught four passes for 115 yards.
U of M, Crookston closes out the 2007 season with an overall record of 2-8 and 1-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Golden Bears close their season out with an overall record of 4-7 and 3-6 in the NSIC.
