(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team scored first but the Milwaukee School of Engineering scored the next three goals and went on to win 5-3 in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) opener for both teams.
Matt Hann (Sr., Fwd., Crookston, Minn.) opened the scoring three minutes into the game off assists from Fred Kooser (So.,Fwd., Omaha, Neb.) and Spencer Syvertson (Fr.,Def., Wasilla, Alaska) to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead..
The Raiders then exploded for three straight goals from Jason Wall (10:41), Ken Walters (15:22) and Lee Swallow (19:52) to take a 3-1 advantage into the locker room.
U of M, Crookston would not go away though and got back on the board with1:01 gone in the second period when Alex Maginnis (Fr., Fwd., Mason City, Iowa) scored a power play goal to cut MSOE’s lead to 3-2. Matt Marchel (So., Def., Grand Forks, N.D.) added the assist. Hann scored again to tie the game just 1:04 later with an unassisted goal.
The Raiders regained the lead with 9:28 gone off a power play goal from Simon Labrosse-Gelinas. Matt Fastelin scored the game’s final goal at 17:40 of the second period to give the give MSOE a 5-3 advantage.
Raider goaltender Robert Kreuser had 21 saves. Justin Klinkhammer (So., G, Thief River Falls, Minn.) had 38 saves for the Golden Eagles who were out shot 43-24.
U of M, Crookston falls to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the MCHA. MSOE improves to 4-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the MCHA. The two teams will return to action on Saturday. The puck drops at 2:00 pm.
