Golden Eagles Start Out Season 2-0 with Win Over Crown College

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Basketball team closed out its non-conference double-header this weekend with a 36 point win over host Crown College. UMC used a combination of strong defense and depth in the decisive win.

 

The Golden Eagles forced Crown College into 27 turnovers and turned those mistakes into 22 points. The bench play of UMC continues to factor into the early wins as 24 points were scored off the bench. Four of the five starters for Minnesota, Crookston scored in double figures in the game. Gina Jaroszewski (Fr., F, Moorhead, Minn.) led the team with 16 points and six rebounds (two offensive, four defensive) in the game. Ana Garcia (Fr., G, Minnetonka, Minn.) scored a personal season high 14 points while Jamie Zelinsky (Fr., G, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Diana Taddy (Fr., G, Two Rivers, Wis.) added 13 and 11 points respectively. Zelinsky also led all players in assists with six and steals with five.

 

Crown College was led by high scorer Mary DeVries’ 19 points. She was followed closely by Kendra Eckstrom’s 17 points in 29 minutes of play.

 

The Golden Eagles are 2-0 on the season while Crown College drops to 0-2. The team returns home on November 20 to take on Valley City State University at 6:00 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
