(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Western Equestrian team had a very successful weekend at the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Competition in Fargo, N.D. this past Saturday and Sunday.
The Golden Eagles took home the Reserve High Point team award on Saturday. Corey Ramsden (Sr., Sisseton, S.D.) led the way for U of M, Crookston by taking home the Reserve High Point Rider award. She also took second in the Rail Class and third in the Reining Class.
Ashley Copa (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) also had a successful Saturday as she won her Reining Class. Sheena Engelbert (Sr., Bruce Crossing, Mich.) continued the winning ways for the Golden Eagles on Saturday as she placed first in her Novice Class and pointed up into the Advanced Division qualifying her for the Regional Competition on March 1, 2007.
Jackie Ezell (So., Carlton, Minn.) also had a solid day taking home third in Open Horsemanship.
U of M, Crookston had some impressive performances in the Intermediate Horsemanship Division. Jess Hanson (So., Andover, Minn.) placed second on Saturday and first on Sunday. Teresa Aakre (Fr., Hawley, Minn.) placed second in her section on both Saturday and Sunday. Sasha McCarger (Sr., LeSueur, Minn.) and Elsa Lunden (Fr., Annandale, Minn.) took home blue ribbons in their respective sections rounding out the Intermediate riders.
Gretchen Lucken (Fr., Greenwald, Minn.) rounded out a strong weekend by the Golden Eagles by placing first on Saturday and second on Sunday in the Beginner Division.
“I was very pleased with how we rode at this show,” said U of M, Crookston Western Coach Nicky Overgaard. “This was a great way to end our Fall Semester show schedule. I can’t help but remain optimistic about our last few spring shows. We now have a total of five riders qualified for the Regional Competition with about four more riders close to making the cut.”
The last equestrian show of the season for the Golden Eagles will be a Hunt Show competition at the University of Wisconsin River Falls on December 1-2. Events will get underway at 1:00 pm and 9:00 am respectively.
The U of M, Crookston Western team is off until February 9-10, 2008 when they host a Western Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) on the U of M, Crookston campus. Events will start at 1:00 pm and 9:00 am respectively.
