Golden Eagle Men’s and Women’s Basketball Hit the Road for Weekend Tournaments

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams travel west this weekend for Thanksgiving basketball tournaments. The women’s team travels to Dickinson, N.D. for the Milanovich Classic while the men head to the University of North Dakota for the UND Thanksgiving Classic.

 

The men’s team is coming off a loss on Tuesday night to the Valley City State University Vikings 78-63. UMC will play host UND on Friday, November 23. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The team will finish up the tournament on Saturday, November 24 with the losers of Friday’s games playing at 4:00 p.m. and the winners playing at 6:00 p.m. Both games will be aired on KROX-1260 AM and web streamed through the UMC website at http://www.umcrookston.edu/people/services/MediaServ/stream.htm. The Golden Eagles have been led by Bryce Cummings (So., G, Mukwonago, Wis.) who is averaging 13 points per game so far this season.

 

The women’s team brings a three-game winning streak to Dickinson State University. UMC opens up the tournament with host Dickinson State University on Friday, November 23. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. The team returns to the hardwood on Saturday, November 24 to take on Montana State University- Northern at 1:00 p.m. The team is led by Jamie Zelinsky’s (Fr., G, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) 17.3 points per game. Freshman Gina Jaroszewski (Fr., F, Moorhead, Minn.) continues to be a force for the Golden Eagles. In three games, she is averaging a double-double with 14.3 points and 11 rebounds per game.

 

Both teams return to Lysaker Gymnasium on November 30 and December 1 to open NSIC conference play. The teams host Wayne State College on Friday and SW Minnesota State on Saturday. The women open the play at 6:00 p.m. and the men follow at 8:00 p.m. on both nights.
