Dickinson State Explodes in Second Half to Hand Golden Eagle Women First Loss of Season

(Dickinson, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) women’s basketball team entered the first game of the Milanovich Classic in Dickinson, N.D. riding a three game winning streak. The Golden Eagles took a 10-point 29-19 lead into halftime. The Hawks came out on fire in the second half and scored 43 points to take the 62-58 victory.
UMC held the Hawks to just 19 points in the first half but Dickinson State would come out to score 43 points to UMC’s 29 to hold on to the four point victory. Katie Cheline (So., F, Mondovi, Wis.) scored a career and season high 28 points to lead the Golden Eagles offensively. Defensively, she grabbed nine rebounds, one shy of her second double-double of the season. Jamie Zelinsky (Fr., G, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) added 12 points while Diana Taddy (Fr., G, Two Rivers, Wis.) played a well rounded game, finishing with three points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Golden Eagles.

Tonight’s loss drops the Golden Eagles to 3-1 on the season. Dickinson State University moves to 2-5 overall. The team returns to the court tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. central time to close out the Milanovich Classic against Montana State University- Northern.
