(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Hunt Equestrian team is ranked third in the latest regional rankings. The Golden Eagles participate with 15 colleges and universities from North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Minnesota. They will be looking to climb higher with a major competition at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (UWRF) this Saturday and Sunday. Events get underway at 1:00 pm and 9:00 am respectively.
Coach Brooke Marcus is looking for solid individual performances from several riders who have shown well this year. Janae Hanson (So., Andover, Minn.) should have solid performance in Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter. Paige Harty (So., Waseca, Minn.) had two great placings in this event at the last competition and Coach Marcus expects another consistent performance from her. Rebecca Rhodus (Fr., Kansas City, Missouri) has also been a consistent placer in this event and does well on any horse she draws.
Walk-Trot riders Janice Holdvogt (So., Eden Valley, Minn.) and Andrea Reed (Sr., Williston, N.D.) are both consistent top finishers in their division. Coach Marcus is hoping that both of them will qualify for regionals as they both have come very far this year.
Novice Riders Chrissy Radintz (So., Maple Grove, Minn.), Kayla Klein (Fr., Hazen, N.D.), Corey Ramsden (Sr., Sisseton, S.D.) and Nicole Veres (So., Random Lake, Minn.) are all strong competitors who should be difficult to beat.
Novice Jumpers Nicole Veres, Kayla Klein and Chrissy Radintz have been doing very well in jumping practice. Coach Marcus looks for top placings out of them this weekend. Open Rider Laura Critchett (Fr., Shoreview, Minn.) has had impressive jumping practices over the past few weeks and is becoming a much more confident rider.
“As a team, I am confident that we are getting stronger each time we compete,” says Coach Marcus.
The U of M, Crookston Western team is off until February 9-10, 2008 when they host a Western Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) on the U of M, Crookston campus. Events will start at 1:00 pm and 9:00 am respectively.
