(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Hockey team has been on the wrong side of some offensive explosions this season. The Golden Eagles picked their home opener to reverse that trend erupting for four second period goals on their way to a 6-1 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in non-conference action Tuesday night at the Crookston Civic Arena.

U of M, Crookston opened the scoring with 14:14 gone in the first period as John Lombardi (So., Fwd., Apple Valley, Minn.) scored a power play goal off assists from Matt Marchel (So., Def., Grand Forks, N.D.) and Teal Plaine (Sr., Fwd., Hallock, Minn.). The Cobbers responded at 17:51 when Kirby Markowsky scored at 17:51 to tie the game going into the intermission.

The second period proved to be the finest the Golden Eagles have played this season as they rattled off four successive goals. Alex Maginnis (Fr., Fwd., Mason City, Iowa) started things off with 2:34 gone as he scored a power play goal off an assist from Marchel. Matt Waclawik (So., Fwd., Fergus Falls, Minn.) got into the scoring column 17 seconds later with an unassisted goal that put U of M, Crookston up 3-1. Not to be outdone, Ryan Tucker (Sr., Fwd., Crookston, Minn.) scored a short-handed goal with 13:37 elapsed off assists from Eddie Hanson (Fr., Fwd., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Kirk Graham (Jr., Def., Brandon, Manitoba, Canada). Lombardi capped the offensive explosion with his second power play goal of the evening off assists from Marchel and Waclawik.

Maginnis closed out the game’s scoring with his second power play goal of the evening at 11:03 of the third period. He was assisted by Marty Bilodeau (Jr., Fwd., Winnipeg, Canada) and Spencer Syvertson (Fr., Def., Wasilla, Alaska).

U of M, Crookston’s Eric Everson (Jr., G., Stevens Point, Wis.) was stellar in net stopping 27 of 28 Cobber shots.
