(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) tipped-off the NSIC home opener against the Wildcats of Wayne State College in Lysaker Gymnasium tonight. The bench lit the fire for the Golden Eagles scoring 33 points in the game to the Wildcats nine. However, the bench could not overcome the hump as the men fell tonight 73-66.
The first half was well fought by both teams as the score was 28-26 in Wayne States favor at the end of the first 20 minutes. Bryce Cummings (Soph., G, Mukwonago, Wis.) scored eight points in the half and dished out three assists. The Golden Eagles as a team took advantage of second chance opportunities scoring seven points on offensive rebounds to the Wildcats four. For the Wildcats, Jamar Diggs led the team with seven first half points, three assists and a steal.
After a close first half, the second half proved to be just as exciting. Akeem Cubie (Fr., G, Minneapolis, Minn.) came off the bench to score 14 points and finished with his season best 16 points.
