(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Hunt Equestrian team had an extremely successful weekend this past Saturday and Sunday at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Golden Eagles posted the most points they have scored in a weekend competition this season.
Saturday
Laura Critchett (Fr., Shoreview, Minn.) placed second in the highly competitive Open Jumping Division. Ashley Copa (Fr., Fargo, N.D.) won her Intermediate Jumping Class against solid competition and scored big points for U of M, Crookston. In the Novice Jumping Division, Chrissy Radintz (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) and Nicole Veres (So., Random Lake, Wis.) placed second and third respectively.
Coach Brooke Marcus felt that Saturday’s performances set the tone for the weekend. “The team put up more jumping points on Saturday then they ever had in one day,” says Coach Marcus. “They rode very well and I am proud to see how far the jumping riders have come since the beginning of the season.”
The Jumping Classes were not the only events in which U of M, Crookston showed success. They performed well in the Flat Divisions also. Novice Flat rider Kayla Klein (Fr., Hazen, N.D.) took first in her division while Elsa Lunden (Fr., Annandale, Minn.) took second place in Advanced Walk-Trot- Canter. In Intermediate Flat, Cory Ramsden (Sr., Sisseton, S.D.) and Emilee Clark (Sr., Fort Branch, Indiana) took third in their respective divisions.
Sunday
Jumping Riders Laura Critchett, Ashley Copa and Chrissy Radintz returned on Sunday and drew tough horses for their rides. All three performed well with Critchett taking fourth in the Open Jumping Division, Copa taking fifth in the Intermediate Jumping Division and Radintz taking fourth in the Novice Jumping Division.
“I was happy to see that even though they did not draw great horses, they still came back strong and in the ribbons,” says Coach Marcus.
Kayla Klein also took home second in her Novice Jumping Class against difficult competition.
On the flat side, U of M, Crookston took home some top honors. Intermediate riders Emilee Clark and Corey Ramsden took first place in their divisions. Ashley Seiler (Sr., West Concord, Minn.) took first place in her Novice Flat Division while Kayla Klein took third.
Lindy Hausaur (Jr., Moorhead, Minn.) took third place in her Advance Walk-Trot-Canter while Rebecca Rhodus (Fr., Kansas City, Missouri) took second place. Paige Harty (So., Waseca, Minn.) took second place in the Beginning Walk-Trot-Canter while Andrea Reed (Sr., Williston, N.D.) took second place in the Walk-Trot.
The U of M, Crookston Hunt team is off until February 16-17, 2008 when they travel to Madison, Wisconsin for a competition at the University of Wisconsin. Events get underway at 1:00 pm and 9:00 am respectively.
The U of M, Crookston Western team is off until February 9-10, 2008 when they host a Western Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC) on the U of M, Crookston campus. Events will start at 1:00 pm and 9:00 am respectively.
