Finlandia Downs Golden Eagles 6-3

(Crookston, Minn.) – Finlandia University opened a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back on their way to a 6-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston today in Hancock, Mich.
Ryan Sullivan opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the game with an even strength goal to put the Lions up 1-0. Joe Beaudry added a power play goal at 9:36 elapsed to put Finlandia up 2-0. Josh Paquette continued the offensive onslaught at11:58 gone by with another power play goal to make the score 3-0.
Travis Hanson made the score 4-0 Lions with a power play goal at 11:31 of the second period. The Golden Eagles finally got on the board at 12:27 elapsed when Jared Kopp (Jr., Fwd., Bismarck, N.D.) scored a power play goal off assist from Kirk Graham (Jr., Def., Brandon, Manitoba, Canada).
Graham cut the score to 4-2 when he scored a short handed goal at 2:22 into the third period off an assist from Teal Plaine (Sr., Fwd., Hallock, Minn.). With 5:00 elapsed, Mike Parks scored a power play goal for Finlandia to make the score 5-2. Brad Van Tassel added an empty net goal at 18:02 to put the Lions up 6-2. Kopp closed out the scoring with an even strength goal at 19:02 to make the final score 6-3. He was assisted by Clark Dingeman (So., Def., Bismarck, N.D.) and Ryan Tucker (Sr., Fwd., Crookston, Minn.).
Finlandia University pushes their overall record to 6-3-0 and 6-2-0 in the MCHA. The Golden Eagles fall to 3-8-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the MCHA.
U of M, Crookston will return to action on Saturday, December 15 when they take on Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn. The puck drops at 7:15 pm.
