Golden Eagles Struggle from the Field, Fall 70-49 to the Dragons

(Moorhead, Minn.)- MSU Moorhead shot an outstanding 51 percent from the field in the game to take the wind out of Minnesota, Crookston’s sails early to cruise to a 70-49 NSIC conference win tonight in Moorhead, Minn.
The Dragon’s went on a 10-0 run early in the first half of tonight’s match and would not relinquish the lead. UMC shot 31 percent from the field while MSU Moorhead took advantage of 50 percent shooting to take a 34-22 lead into the half. Justin Peddycoart (Jr, C, Springfield, Ill.) led UMC with five points in the first half. Moorhead was led by Blake Strouth who scored nine points.
Minnesota, Crookston’s shooting struggles continued into the second half as the team shot 23 percent from the field. The Dragon’s used the momentum to shoot 52 percent from the field and outscored UMC 36-27. In the game, the Golden Eagles committed 15 turnovers that MSU Moorhead turned into 18 points. Leading all scorers tonight was Moorhead’s Blake Strouth who finished with 14 points to get to 1,000 points in his career. The Golden Eagles were led by Eric Rongen (Sr, G, Devils Lake, N.D.) who scored a season high 13 points in the contest.
Tonight’s loss brings the Golden Eagles to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC. The Dragons improve 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. UMC returns to Lysaker Gymnasium on Tuesday, December 11 to host the Bulldogs from Minnesota Duluth. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
