Golden Eagle Basketball Returns to Lysaker Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 2

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston men’s and women’s basketball teams return home to Lysaker Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 2 in a pair of non-conference games. The women host the University of North Dakota at 6:00 p.m. while the men follow immediately after against Dakota State University at 8:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagle women’s team enters this weeks contest 4-8 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC. The University of North Dakota enters the game 13-0 overall. Offensively, UMC is led by Jamie Zelinsky (Fr, G, Brooklyn Park, Minn.). In 12 games, Zelinsky is averaging 17.5 points per game. She is second on the team in steals (20) and assists (40) and third on the team in blocked shots (6).
The Golden Eagle men’s team returns to the court following a tough loss at St. Cloud State on December 29 89-67. UMC enters Wednesday’s game 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC. Dakota State visits Minnesota, Crookston with an overall record of 2-10. The Golden Eagles are led by Bryce Cummings (So, G, Mukwonago, Wis.) who is averaging 11 points per game. He is second on the team in assists with 26. Freshman Akeem Cubie (Fr, G, Minneapolis, Minn.) continues to improve as the season moves on. Cubie is averaging 10.4 points per game and is tied for second on the team in steals with 10.
Both teams travel to Bemidji State University on Saturday, January 5 to resume NSIC play. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. (women) and 8:00 p.m. (men) at the Gillette Fieldhouse on the Bemidji State campus.
