(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of North Dakota (UND) Fighting Sioux Women’s Basketball team proved why they are ranked number one in NCAA Division II. Tonight, it was plain to see why, as UND opened up a commanding 47-21 halftime lead on its way to an 84-47 victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston in front of 390 fans at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn.

The Sioux shot a blistering 65.5 percent from the field in the first half including 60 percent from three-point range on their way to a 55.7 field goal percentage for the game. Kierah Kimbrough scored 16 of her game high 22 points in the first half. UND also out rebounded the Golden Eagles by a 23-9 margin in half number one which saw the Sioux pull down 17 defensive boards. The Fighting Sioux ended up with 44 rebounds for the game including 32 on the defensive end.

UND had four players score in double figures including Kimbrough, Whitney Ledger (13), Alys Seay (12), and Ashley Langen (10). Langen also led all players with 12 rebounds including nine in the first half.

U of M, Crookston was led by Jamie Zelinsky (Fr, G., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) with 10 points. Jenna Dolence (Fr., G., Moorhead, Minn.) added nine while Katie Cheline (So., F., Mondovi, Wis.) and Gina Jaroszewski (Fr., F., Moorhead, Minn.) added six points and four rebounds each.

The undefeated Fighting Sioux improve their record to 14-0. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-9 on the season. U of M, Crookston will return to action with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) game at Bemidji State University on Saturday, January 5. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
