Northland College Scores Five First Period Goals On Way to 8-0 Victory Over Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – Northland College exploded for five first period goals and added three more over the next two periods to shut out the University of Minnesota, Crookston by a score of 8-0 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) action today in Ashland Wis.

 

The Lumberjacks opened the scoring at 6:21 into the first period when Chad Moore netted an even strength goal. Moore continued the scoring at 13:16 when he added a power play goal. Nick Mattson got on the board just 37 seconds later with another power play goal to put the Lumberjacks up 3-0. Rick Delecke added Northland’s third power play goal of the period at 15:52. Tony Huberty closed out the offensive onslaught at 18:52 with an even strength goal that sent the Lumberjacks into the intermission with a 5-0 cushion.

 

Northland College continued the offensive fireworks at 6:37 into the second period when Jiri Zemen scored a power play goal. Mike Stevens put the Lumberjacks up 7-0 at 14:14 with an even strength goal.

 

Zach Kozak closed out the game’s scoring at 15:16 of the third period to give Northland College an 8-0 victory over the Golden Eagles.

 

The Lumberjacks improve their record to 3-11-0 overall and 3-7-0 in the MCHA. U of M, Crookston falls to 3-12-0 overall and 2-8-0 in the MCHA. The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19 when they play host to Adrian College in a pair of MCHA contests at the Crookston Civic Arena. The puck will drop at 8:00 pm and 2:00 pm respectively.
