(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston took on the Northern State University Wolves tonight in Lysaker Gymnasium and looked to rebound after a disappointing loss to the University of Mary last night.  Unfortunately, the Wolves crashed the boards hard and out-rebounded the Golden Eagles by 24 aiding NSU in the 77-62 victory.

The Golden Eagles were down 45-32 at the half with most of the deficit due to lack of rebounding by Minnesota, Crookston. In the half, the Wolves out rebounded the Golden Eagles 23 to 11 with seven boards coming on the offensive side for NSU. The Wolves struggled on second chance attempts as they only scored three points on the offensive rebounds.  Jamie Zelinsky (Fr., G, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) produced early as she scored 12 points at the half.  Gina Jaroszewski (Fr., F, Moorhead, Minn.) scored nine points at the half and showed her defensive ability as she blocked a shot and stole a pass.  Katie Cheline (Soph., F, Mondovi, Wis.) although scoreless at the half, did dish three assists from the post.  Northern State’s Noelle Hall scored 18 points at the half and grabbed nine rebounds, one shy of a double-double at the half. The Wolves as a team had a solid 13 assists at the half.

The story of the second half was rebounds again as the Wolves out rebounded the Golden Eagles 25-13; 10 of which were offensive boards. Unlike the first half, Northern State made their second shot attempts as they scored 28 second-chance points.  As a team, the Golden Eagles scored 12 points off 13 Northern State turnovers.  Zelinsky played 26 minutes and led the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 17 and seven respectively.  Kelsey Van Ackeren (Soph., G, St. Cloud, Minn.) stepped up off of the bench and scored six points and grabbed two rebounds. Jaroszewski finished her night with 12 points, seven rebounds, a block, an assist and a steal.  For the Wolves, Noelle Hall finished with a double-double scoring 24 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.  She also blocked three shots. Jaclyn Arns finished the night with 14 points and seven assists.

Tonight’s loss brings the Golden Eagles to 4-12 overall and 0-7 in NSIC play. Northern State advances to 8-9 overall and 4-4 in NSIC play.  The Golden Eagles are back in action next weekend when they travel to Winona State University to take on the Warriors on Friday, January 18. The tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.  The following night, the Women will play the Peacocks of Upper Iowa University at 6:00 p.m.
