Lawrence University Opens Up Three Goal Lead and Holds On for 5-3 Victory Over Golden Eagles

(Crookston, Minn.) – Lawrence University opened up a three goal advantage with three straight power play goals and held on for 5-3 victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) action Friday night in Appleton, Wis.
The Vikings took a 1-0 lead at 7:33 of the first period when Masa Takahashi scored a power play goal. Nick Jennette continued Lawrence’s good fortunes with two power play goals less than two minutes apart in the second period to make the score 3-0.
The Golden Eagles finally got on the board at 3:38 of the third period when Matt Hann (Sr, Fwd, Crookston, Minn.) scored an unassisted, even-strength goal to cut the lead to 3-1. Lawrence regained their three goal cushion at 7:04 when Jennette recorded the hat-trick with an unassisted even-strength goal to put the Vikings up 4-1.
U of M, Crookston would not go away though as Collin Perry (So, Fwd, Grand Forks, N.D.) scored a power play goal at 13:08 of the third off an assist from Brent Groenke (Sr, Def, Morden, Manitoba, Canada). At 16:20, Ryan Tucker (Sr, Fwd, Crookston, Minn.) continued his solid play of late as he cut the lead to one goal with an even strength goal. He was assisted by Martin Husicka (Fr, Fwd, Vsetin, Czech Republic).
Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles would get no closer as Jennette picked up his fourth goal of the game with an empty netter at 19:39 to secure the 5-3 victory for the Vikings.
Lawrence University improves their record to 6-11-3 overall and 6-8-1 in the MCHA. The Golden Eagles fall to 5-15-0 overall and 4-11-0 in the MCHA. The two teams resume action today at 4:00 pm.
